- Necessary for ALL new applications.
- Qualifications - Copy of Diploma and Transcript for Bachelor of Science Degree in (construction related) Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Science. Or certified test score from nationally recognized test – Experior/Block and Associates/Thomson
Prometric or International Code Council.
- Only Class DS can qualify based on experience until
October 1, 2010. Please see

Johnson County does not have a journeyman program, all Mechanical,
Plumbing and HVAC must have taken a "Master" exam to qualify for a
license. Therefore, at this time, we
do not sponsor individuals for journeyman exams. If one would like to take a
journeyman exam we recommend you contact one of the following jurisdictions.

- Fees - The registration fee of $100.00 and the license fee of
$200.00 per license.
- Insurance Requirements -
Instruction for Insurance Certificate and
Workman's Comp Insurance Waiver Form
Only to be used if company has no employees. Contractor
Insurance, every contractor except a contractor who has an "inactive
license" shall keep in force a policy of general liability insurance
including completed operations coverage. All contractors shall
maintain general liability coverage in an amount not less than one
million dollars per occurrence and one million dollars finished
products. In addition, every such contractor shall procure and
maintain workers compensation insurance as required by law. A
contractor, at the time of licensing shall provide the Johnson County
Contractor Licensing with a certificate of insurance or other
satisfactory evidence of the insurance coverage required by this
Section.
- Certificate of Good Standing - All corporate entities are required to
submit proof of good standing from the state in which they are registered.
Sole proprietor companies will not be required to submit this evidence.
- Digital Photo Required - Photo ID cards will be furnished for all qualified individuals. Contractor Licensing will take a photo of each qualified individual
or a digital photo (preferably in .jpg format) may be submitted via e-mail to
contractor.licensing@jocogov.org
- Testing Information - Looking for testing information. Click here for

If taking an Prometric or ICC exam your score must be 75% or above and an exam that
meets our requirements. You must be sponsored for any Prometric or
ICC examination. Please call us if interested in taking an
Prometric examination.

- Continuing Education - (This is not a requirement to
initially apply for a license. This is strictly for renewal of license.)
- The CLRB has established continuing education requirements, rules, and regulations for contractors. Every contractor shall complete a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education, as required by the CLRB, each calendar year. CLRB
shall provide for the recognition of codes-related education provided by
governmental entities, trade associations, contractor education
providers, and others for courses and instruction directly related to
those codes adopted within Johnson County, Kansas

Please provide the following information when submitting a license renewal application:

- Renewal Fee - $200.00. AFTER 1/31of the following year,
include $75.00 Late Fee.
- Continuing Education - Provide proof of completed continuing
education, only if courses were taken outside of what Contractor Licensing
offers.
